Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is this cleaning, and why does it build up in the first place?

It descales the internal electrolysis plate of PEM hydrogen water bottles. Mineral content in the water used gradually deposits scale on the plate, which reduces hydrogen output the same way limescale reduces a kettle’s efficiency.

Which bottles is this compatible with?

It’s formulated for H2Nano, PEM+, H2Life, and H2Sport bottles, and more broadly for any PEM-based portable hydrogen bottle or pitcher.

How often should I actually clean my bottle?

Every 2–4 weeks under regular use; if you notice declining ppm output before that window, cleaning ahead of schedule is reasonable.

What’s the cleaning process, step by step?

Fill the bottle with 1–2 inches of water, add the citric acid via the included cap, screw the lid on, shake vigorously, let it sit 1–3 hours, then rinse thoroughly before normal use resumes.

Does using tap water instead of filtered water speed up scale buildup?

Yes, since scale comes directly from dissolved minerals in the water, using tap or hard water instead of filtered/RO water will require more frequent cleaning cycles than the standard 2–4 week interval.

Is citric acid safe on the internal membrane, or could it cause damage?

Citric acid is a mild, non-corrosive descaling agent chosen specifically because it’s safe for PEM plates and membranes at the recommended dilution and soak time, unlike harsher industrial descalers.
